Recording

Record it once, in a room that is ready.

A recording day at SN7 is for the performance: a lead vocal, a worship team, a choir section, or a spoken piece. The microphones and the session are set before you arrive, so the hours are spent singing, not waiting.

What a recording session is for

Recording is the capture. It is not yet the finished mix, and it is not the master. You book it when the song, the sermon, or the choir part needs to be performed into a proper microphone, in a room that does not sound like a tiled lounge.

Gospel sessions fail for ordinary reasons. The singer is tired because the setup took two hours. The choir was recorded on one phone at the back of a hall. The band played to nothing, so the drums and the vocal never sat in the same time. We plan those problems out of the day before you travel from North Beach, Berea, Glenwood, or wherever you are coming from.

Who books this

  • Christian artists tracking a single, an EP, or a full vocal.
  • Worship leaders who need more than a keyboard and a guide vocal.
  • Choirs and small groups recording sections against a track.
  • Pastors and speakers who need clean spoken-word audio.
  • Producers who want the SN7 live room and engineer for the day.

How the day runs

You send the song, a reference, the key, and the names of the people attending. If there is a backing track, we want it before the session, not on a memory stick discovered at the door. We set the vocal chain, the headphone mix, and the talkback so the first half hour is a soundcheck, not a rescue.

Lead vocals are recorded on a large-diaphragm condenser in the treated vocal position. Bands use the live room: drum kit, bass, acoustic guitar, and percussion are already here. Overdubs, ad-libs, and choir stacks happen after the foundation is in time. You hear a rough balance before you leave, so you are not guessing whether the take was the one.

What you leave with

Organised session audio, the takes we marked as the keepers, and a rough mix for listening in the car or in rehearsal. The commercial mix and the master are separate services, and most songs need them. If you want the same studio to finish the record, say so in the booking and we will schedule mixing after you have lived with the rough.

Read how to prepare for the session before you confirm the date. It will save the first hour.

Questions about this service

Do I need to bring my own musician?

Bring the people who are part of the record. The live room already has drums, bass, acoustic guitar, and percussion. If you need the song arranged or played for you, book music production rather than a straight recording day.

Can I record to a beat I made at home?

Yes. Send the beat as a wav file, not only a chat voice note, and tell us the tempo. We will check the format before the day so the vocal is not recorded to a crushed mp3 by accident.

How long is a typical vocal session?

A focused lead vocal for one song is often a half day once the headphone mix is right. A worship team with drums is a day. We quote the length after you tell us the arrangement, not before.
